ANNUAL CAMPAIGN
Staff Sergeant Gil Hiram of the Israeli Defense Forces, while recovering from wounds sustained in the most recent attack on Israel, came to the United States to thank us for continuing to support Israel. He refers to Americans as heroes to Israelis for continuing to figuratively stand beside them as they defend our Homeland – Eretz Israel.
Campaign funds help to support Israel’s mission to remain an independent country open to all Jews.
Campaign funds also help to support Jews in other parts of this world who are often the most vulnerable Jews we can imagine. Elderly, in poor health, unemployed, minimal (if any) pension, no regular health care, limited food, limited (if any) access to religious life cycle or education or experiences, etc.
Campaign funds help to create an outreach to Jewish men and women between the ages of 18 to 25 years of age who might otherwise never have an opportunity to visit Israel and experience for themselves the wonder of a Jewish homeland. To reach out and touch the reality of ancient Judaism from Jerusalem to the Dead Sea to the Reed Sea to the Mediterranean Ocean. To walk the land our prophets and others in the Torah walked. An amazing opportunity for strengthening our Jewish heritage with this generation.
Campaign funds help to make our own community rich in Jewish tradition, health care, education and life cycle experiences. From the Mikvah to the grave and all stops in between. including Jewish social services, Jewish education, Jewish music and culture and more. The Greater Syracuse area provides for the Jewish community and makes sure that these services can be extended into the community-at-large, for we are, above all, good neighbors.
Each year, the dollars that are pledged during the active campaign are put to excellent use. Your Syracuse Jewish Federation has a Community Planning and Allocations Committee that makes sure that these many worthwhile organizations, projects and activities are able to move forward. The more dollars that are available, the more funds that can be allocated to them.
